About Counselerate

Legal AI adoption is operational restructuring

Counselerate is a consulting and talent firm built on the view that legal AI adoption is operational restructuring, not just a software purchase. We put experienced lawyers where the change actually happens: in the workflows.

Michelle built Counselerate on a model she has run from the inside. As SVP, Head of Advisory Services at RGP (2016 to 2019), a consulting and professional staffing firm built on project-based engagements, she led the firm's legal advisory practice and a team of 20+ client-facing professionals creating and commercializing consulting offerings. She launched a consulting practice there and turned client needs into repeatable service models and delivery standards.

That experience shapes Counselerate. Bringing in experienced professionals for the project, and for the phase of the work, rather than for a permanent seat, is how RGP serves its clients. Counselerate applies the same on-demand model to legal innovation, matching each project with a lawyer who has the right practice-area expertise.

Before RGP, Michelle was a Managing Director at AlixPartners (2006 to 2014), where she launched and directed the firm's crisis communications and change management practice and built e-discovery capabilities. She began her career as a litigator and then a restructuring attorney at Klee, Tuchin, Bogdanoff & Stern LLP and White & Case LLP, representing Chapter 11 debtors. Over more than 25 years as a lawyer and consultant, she has helped companies in crisis through major change.

Today she builds AI tools hands-on across leading frontier models as founder of Lawbyte, an AI legal platform. She is a member of the State Bar of California (No. 207919) and holds a J.D. from SMU Dedman School of Law and a B.A. from the University of Southern California.
